EU, EEA and Swiss passports
Questions From European Residents of the Coast
German, Dutch, Norwegian or Swiss? The EX-18, where Cartagena registers Europeans, a job here with a home across the border, an old NIE, and the children.
We are German and retiring to Cabo de Palos. Is it one file or two?
Two. Once you have been here three months, each of you registers on an EX-18 of your own, with your pension and health cover as evidence. policia.es lists the procedure at the Comisaría de Cartagena, C/ Menéndez y Pelayo 6.
I am Norwegian. Is my route the European one?
It is. Nationals of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, which belong to the EEA, and of Switzerland register exactly as EU citizens do.
Certificado de registro UE Cartagena: how is it booked?
Online, on the cita previa system: select Murcia, then the trámite named for the EU citizen’s registration certificate. The confirmation names the office, Menéndez y Pelayo 6 or the brigade in Murcia.
I work in Cartagena but my home is still in Portugal. Do I register?
No: only residents register. For the contract and Social Security, a NIE on its own, requested on the EX-15, is what you need.
We got a NIE when we bought our apartment on La Manga. Does it change when we move here?
No. That same number is printed on your green certificate.
Does our teenage son need his own certificate?
Yes. Every member of the family who lives here registers, children included, each with their own EX-18 and fee; a parent signs for a minor.
