Have these at hand
- Your passport or national ID card, or the NIE, once you have one
- Your names exactly as that document prints them
- The procedure you need: NIE, EU certificate, fingerprints for a TIE, return authorisation
- An email address and a mobile phone that receives messages
- A few possible days, and a way to reach Murcia if that is what the screen offers
On the booking site
The official page sits on sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es, in its directory of appointments for foreigners. Pick Murcia as the province first. The list that follows names each trámite (procedure); the police ones begin with the word POLICÍA. Choose the one that describes your case, not the one that looks nearest.
Depending on the procedure, the system asks you to pick an office or simply shows the first free dates. You then type your document number, name and nationality, take a slot and receive a confirmation with a reference code. A non-EU resident with a visa or a granted permit books the fingerprint appointment for the TIE the same way.
Cartagena or Murcia?
For a number on form EX-15, the green certificate, TIE issue, a return authorisation or a letter of invitation, policia.es lists the Comisaría de Cartagena at Menéndez y Pelayo 6. Student stays, stay extensions and non-lucrative residence appear only at the provincial brigade at Cabezo Cortado, in Murcia. Permits themselves go to the Oficina de Extranjería, the immigration office, on the same Murcia site.
If a slot sends you somewhere you cannot reach, you need not take it: leave the screen and search again later.
Reading the confirmation
Before accepting, read three things: the office address, the day and hour, and the name of the procedure. Then keep the confirmation, printed and on your phone. It settles where you are expected: if it says Menéndez y Pelayo 6, that is where you go, whatever a forum or a neighbour says. The same trámite decides which box you tick on the Modelo 790 código 012.
When the dates run dry
New slots appear without a published timetable. Try at different times of day, check that your trámite is the right one, and widen the search to every office the province offers for it. Never pay anyone for a slot: the booking is free and tied to your own document.

In Cartagena
For cita previa NIE Cartagena, the system covers every office of the province of Murcia. The comisaría on Menéndez y Pelayo 6 lists the procedures most residents of the city and the coast need; the brigade and the Oficina de Extranjería, both at Cabezo Cortado in Murcia, cover the rest. Either way, the confirmation names the office.
Questions
Can I book by phone?
Plan on the website: that is where bookings are made, and policia.es presents none of the comisaría’s three numbers as a booking line.
Can I book for my wife and our son?
You can type in their details, but every appointment is personal: one name, one slot. Take the slots one after another if the screen allows.
I chose the wrong trámite. Is the date lost?
Cancel it on the same site with the reference code and book the right procedure. A slot for another trámite is unlikely to be accepted for yours.
Must I print the confirmation?
Not strictly, but paper is the safe choice: have it ready to show at the entrance, and keep the reference code on your phone as well.
