Huellas TIE Cartagena: from your fingerprints to the card

Once you are here on a long-stay visa, or once Spain has granted your permit, reserve the fingerprint visit, the toma de huellas, for Murcia province without delay, and take the signed EX-17, one photograph and the paid fee. policia.es names two places for issuing the card, the comisaría (police station) on Menéndez y Pelayo and the brigade in Murcia, and you walk out with a resguardo (receipt) while it is made. That card, the Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero or TIE, is the plastic residence document of non-Europeans, showing your photograph, your NIE and the permit behind it.

When you can book

The card follows a decision. You book the fingerprints once you have entered Spain on a long-stay visa, or once Spain has granted your authorisation.

With a visa, a non-lucrative visa included, do not wait: the rules allow only a short period from your entry to request the card, so take a cita previa for Murcia province in your first days here, and register on the padrón (municipal register) as soon as you have an address.

What the fingerprint appointment needs

  • Form EX-17, which you sign
  • Your passport, and a copy of its visa page
  • A recent colour photograph, passport size, white background
  • The 790-012 for the card, paid
  • The resolution granting your authorisation, if there was one
  • A recent padrón (municipal register) certificate

At the desk

The officer checks the file, the paid Modelo 790 código 012 included, takes your prints and gives you a resguardo, a receipt showing that the card is being made. Keep it with your passport: until the card arrives, the two together are what you show.

Collecting the card

The card is collected later, in person, at the office that took your prints, with the resguardo and your passport. Ask at the desk how your office arranges collection, and check whether the province’s cita previa (appointment) list offers a separate trámite for it.

Renewals and lost cards

Each card carries an expiry date. Renewing a temporary residence is usually a request to the Oficina de Extranjería, followed by new prints at the police. A lost or stolen card is reported to the police and replaced with a duplicate. While either is pending, travel needs care: see the return authorisation.

In Cartagena

For huellas TIE Cartagena, TIE issue appears on policia.es at the Comisaría de Cartagena, C/ Menéndez y Pelayo 6, as well as at the brigade at Cabezo Cortado in Murcia. People living in the city, on La Manga or in the Mar Menor towns book for the province of Murcia, and the confirmation tells them which office expects them.

Questions

Huellas TIE Cartagena: can I book them at Menéndez y Pelayo?

Yes, if the slots on offer include it: policia.es names Menéndez y Pelayo for TIE issue. Choose Murcia as the province and the fingerprint trámite; the confirmation gives the office, which may also be in Murcia.

Is the number on my TIE a new NIE?

No. A NIE you held before reappears on the card unchanged.

Do our children need their own appointment?

Yes. Each child has a card of their own, so each needs their own EX-17, photograph, fee and appointment.

Can the resguardo serve as identity?

It shows that your application is in progress, not who you are. Carry it with your passport.
